Solar Power Maintenance in Newcastle

How to prevent solar power fires

In our last video we showed you how water can enter into solar DC conduit and how this starts a fire.

This is our solution to that problem. We install a tee piece with a drain on the solar conduit and any water that gets into the conduit is dispelled out of the drain before it can reach any electrical equipment.

This is standard equipment on all of our new installations but we retrofit this to other people’s work.

Solar Maintenance to keep your system safe and running smooth

Safety

At the core, regular maintenance will check your systems safety and ensure that it remains safe. Solar power is an electricity generation machine – it generates lethal voltages.

Reliability

You invested into a solar power system because it was a financial investment for you wasn’t it? The estimated returns were calculated on a 10-25  year payback. And so, the financial investment will only work if your solar power lasts the stated time. And it is only going to work if it is maintained. It’s like a car.

Compliance [Important]

Most people don’t know this fact: Your insurance policy actually requires you to service your solar panel system. If you don’t and your system causes damage to your homes, your insurance provider can invalidate your insurance claim – leaving you with a potentially hefty repair bill. Solar power systems can cause fires, leaks, and electrocution. This is not a scare tactic – it is a reality.

Solar power maintenance is a requirement for landlords and property managers

You have obligations if you are a landlord and the property under your management has solar power. This also applies to property managers whom look after and maintain their landlords properties.

There are two main points that landlords need to understand.

Firstly, Clause 19.3 from the Residential Tenancies Regulation 2019 (NSW) requires landlords to maintain the solar power system. Click here for our write up on this:

Secondly, every single residential insurance policy states that you must maintain the property. ‘Maintain’ is defined generally as maintenance in accordance with the manufacturers requirements. Meaning – if you do not maintain the property, and the solar causes damage (fire or a roof leak) your insurance company is within their legal rights to deny your claim for compensation.

BY LAW a landlord must service the solar power system.
