AlphaESS SMILE M5 and M10 — the entry option
A stackable all-in-one hybrid system. The M5 gives 5 kW of inverter output and the M10 steps that to 10 kW for larger homes and bigger arrays. Capacity starts small and grows by adding modules, and the 13.99 kWh module size lines up neatly with the 14 and 28 kWh rebate tiers.
It suits a household adding its first battery on a budget, particularly one that wants room to expand rather than a big spend up front.
GoodWe ESA — the all-rounder
Inverter, battery and UPS prewired in one tower, 3 to 10 kW of output, and 5 kWh or 8 kWh modules that can be mixed in a single stack up to 48 kWh. Two features matter day to day: it charges and discharges at 1C, so it can fill fast during a cheap or free power window, and it switches to backup in under 4 milliseconds.
This is the system most Newcastle households end up with, and it's what we fit most often. It's the best balance of price, capacity and backup we install.
EcoFlow OCEAN 2 — the premium choice
Higher output — up to 12 kW single-phase, with a three-phase range available — three independent solar trackers and whole-home backup with zero-millisecond switchover. Three trackers are genuinely useful on Hunter homes with panels across several roof faces or partial shade.
It makes sense on large homes, large arrays and households that want the whole house to ride through an outage. On an average three-bedroom home, it's more system than the usage justifies.
