NSW solar battery rebate, explained by the people who lodge it.

Three incentives may reduce an eligible solar or battery price: the federal battery discount, solar STCs and the NSW virtual power plant incentive. A separate NSW zero-interest loan of up to $15,000 is repayable finance applied for through a participating provider.

The short answer

Is there still a battery rebate in NSW?

Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program still applies to eligible battery installations. The CER currently applies a 100% STC factor from 0–14 kWh usable, 60% above 14–28 kWh and 15% above 28–50 kWh. The separate NSW home battery installation discount ended on 1 July 2025, but the NSW incentive for connecting an eligible battery to a virtual power plant remains.

How much is it worth?

The federal discount is calculated on the battery’s usable capacity, so a 28 kWh system attracts roughly double a 14 kWh one. The rate steps down each year, which is why a figure quoted online last year is rarely the figure you get today. We calculate it on the exact battery proposed and show it as its own line.

What about the panels?

Rooftop solar is supported separately through small-scale technology certificates (STCs), which come off the upfront price of an eligible system. This is the deduction people usually mean by “the solar rebate” in NSW. See solar panel installation for what a system involves.

Can I do it without the upfront cash?

Eligible NSW households may apply through a participating finance provider for a zero-interest Home Energy Saver loan of up to $15,000. It is separate from our quote and subject to eligibility, approval and the finance agreement. Solar panel rebate (STCs)

Small-scale Technology Certificates can reduce the upfront price of an eligible rooftop solar system. The value depends on system size, installation date, location and certificate market value.

Generally applies to eligible systems under 100 kW using approved equipment.
The system must be installed by an appropriately accredited installer.
We show the STC deduction clearly on your written quote and handle the paperwork for eligible installations.

Federal battery rebate

The federal program provides an upfront discount on eligible battery systems. The rate and capacity bands can change, so the exact benefit should be confirmed when your quote is prepared.

The battery, installation and timing must meet the current program rules.
The discount is usually assigned and applied at the point of sale rather than claimed later by the homeowner.
We confirm the applicable amount and show it separately on your quote.

NSW battery VPP incentive

NSW supports eligible households that connect a battery to a Virtual Power Plant under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. The earlier standalone NSW battery installation discount has ended.

A VPP lets an energy provider coordinate some battery activity during grid peaks.
Offers, eligible equipment and participation terms vary by provider.
The NSW VPP incentive may be available alongside the federal battery discount when all current rules are met.

Home Energy Saver loan

Eligible NSW homeowners may access an interest-free loan of up to $15,000 for approved home energy upgrades, including solar and batteries.

Household, property, income and product eligibility rules apply, and applications are made through a participating finance provider.
This is finance that must be repaid, not a rebate or cash grant.
Finance eligibility and approval are separate from the installer and should be confirmed before relying on the loan.

How much is the NSW solar battery rebate worth?+

Can I combine solar and battery rebates?+

Is the $15,000 NSW offer a rebate?+

No. It is a zero-interest loan of up to $15,000 for eligible households, applied for through a participating finance provider and repaid under the finance agreement. It is separate from the installer and is not deducted from our quote.

Do I have to claim the rebate myself?+

No. For eligible installations we handle the paperwork and the discount is applied to your price rather than claimed back later. You see the gross price, each deduction and the net figure.
