The cheapest kilowatt-hour is the one you already made

A resistive electric hot water tank turns one unit of electricity into one unit of heat. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the water instead of making it, so it delivers several units of heat for each unit of power. Same hot shower, a fraction of the energy.

That matters most when you have solar. Put the heat pump on a daytime timer and it heats the tank in the middle of the day on power you generated yourself — energy that would otherwise export for a few cents. For a lot of Newcastle households it is the cheapest self-consumption upgrade available, and it stacks neatly with a battery rather than competing with it.

We keep heat pump units in stock and do the full changeover in house: the circuit, the switchboard work if the board needs it, the timer or solar diverter setup, and the removal of the old gas or electric tank. The new unit is set up to run when the sun is up — the step most changeovers skip.

Pricing is quoted per job because it depends on tank size, the existing plumbing and electrical setup, and whether switchboard work is needed. We will not list a price here and guess; we will measure your site and give you a written quote with the STC rebate already deducted.
