Stockton: exposed, windy, and worth doing right

Solar on the Stockton peninsula — between the harbour and the ocean, where wind loading and salt both get a say in how the system is built.

About this job

Stockton sits on a narrow strip with water on both sides. It gets more wind and more salt than almost anywhere else in Newcastle, and both matter for how a solar system is mounted and specified.

Wind loading is calculated to the site rather than a suburban default, which affects fixing patterns, rail spans and how far an array can be set from the roof edge. Getting that right is the difference between a system that rides out a southerly and one that doesn't.

Corrosion resistance is the other half of it. Coastal-rated mounting hardware, stainless fixings and properly sealed enclosures are not an upsell in Stockton — they're the minimum for a system expected to last twenty-odd years.

The payoff is a peninsula with excellent sun and very little shading. When the mounting is specified properly, Stockton roofs perform beautifully.
