Wallsend: a battery that earns its keep

Wallsend families typically draw most of their power after the sun's off the roof — cooking, heating, kids' showers. A battery sized to that pattern turns cheap midday solar into free evening power.

The maths on a battery is simple enough once you see the numbers. Exported solar earns a few cents a kilowatt-hour. The same kilowatt-hour bought back at dinner time costs several times that. A battery's job is to move as much of your generation as possible across that gap — so the right size is the one that covers your evening, not the biggest one on the shelf.

Wallsend homes vary a lot in age, and with that comes variation in switchboard condition. Battery connection has requirements that many older boards don't meet, so an assessment happens before we quote, and any upgrade needed is priced in from the start.

We also talk through backup honestly. The written design names the backed-up circuits and checks their simultaneous and starting loads against the selected inverter's off-grid continuous and surge output.

Eligible battery work may receive the federal discount under the rules current at installation. NSW Home Energy Saver is separate, repayable finance applied for through a participating provider rather than an installer-administered rebate.
